NETP is a post-baccalaureate experience for recently graduated women that focuses on professional development and preparedness to build foundations for internship, job, or graduate school applications. We aim to develop curiosity and creativity while participants develop research skills with a strong field emphasis.
Participants actively engage in the entire research process — from idea inception to publication and the presentation of results.
Skills Developed
Through fortnightly meetings, participants build:
- Confidence in the scientific community
- Communication skills for collaborations and presenting findings
- Critical reading of scientific literature
- Analytical skills — statistical analysis in R, GIS modeling
- Scientific writing
Program Outcomes (2019–2022, 13 Students)
- 85% continued as professional biologists
- 4 students enrolled in PhD programs
- 2 students enrolled in MS programs
- 3 in non-academic biology positions (state parks, aquariums, museums)
Current Status
From 2023 onward, one-on-one mentoring continues for participants at various career stages. Formal group activities are resuming as students' career timelines allow.
